Organic organizations are natural communities and have “organizational intelligence”, something mechanical organizations are trying to achieve in vain.
They are more than “smart” (even this bar is too high for mechanical organizations, however jam-packed they maybe by smart people); they are intelligent in a supra-rational sense.
This is why organic organizations harmonized with nature on the one hand and provided a natural environment for people to lead a fulfilling life on the other. Mechanical organizations can’t help but damage people and they will never become sustainable. Perhaps this is the reason why they came up with sustainability and human workplace as issues to tackle, some of the many that are doomed to failure without a fundamental change of world-views
